Concert on Gunther Day at Göllingen Monastery in Thuringia
In this afternoon concert, Nimmersêlich brings rarely performed medieval music from its homeland in central Germany to life. Traditions are rare: much was lost during the Reformation and in the turmoil of many wars. And yet, some remarkable manuscripts can be found in libraries, ranging from the Jena song manuscript from the 13th century to Schedel’s songbook from the 15th century. The pieces, most of which are in German, display a wide range of styles: Unison minnesang and Spruchdichtung are represented, as are three-part movements from the late Middle Ages – a small but all the more exciting treasure trove for Nimmersêlich and a treat for the audience! Experience music from the time when the monastery was founded, with hurdy-gurdy, lute, harp, and singing.
